Road Rage: How to Identify and Avoid Drivers Afflicted with this Deadly Disorder

Last updated 1 year ago

Road rage is a particular way of classifying anger issues when they happen behind the wheel of a vehicle. Because of the risky nature of driving, it’s essential that you keep an eye out for drivers who are upset and more likely to collide with your car, leaving you in need of auto repairs. Here’s how to identify and avoid road rage when you’re behind the wheel.

Speeding

Probably the easiest way to identify a driver who is suffering from road rage is by noting whether he is driving well above the speed limit. If you see a car that’s going way too fast, it’s best to get out of the way. If you are in their path, you are only increasing the chances that you are involved in a collision.

Aggressive Maneuvers

If you see a driver who is weaving through traffic, changing lanes rapidly, or cutting other drivers off, you should try and distance yourself from him or her, as it is likely that this driver suffers from anger issues. Let aggressive drivers pass so that you don’t risk upsetting them or getting into an accident.

Tailgating

Another common sign of road rage is tailgating, or following a car too closely. This is extremely dangerous and is often the reason for rear-end collisions. Save yourself the hassle of an auto body repair—avoid checking your brakes in front of these drivers and change lanes as soon as possible.

Noticeable Anger

If you ever notice that a driver is visibly upset—maybe he or she is shouting, displaying rude hand gestures, or honking excessively—you can be sure that you’re dealing with a case of road rage. Just like in other road rage situations, do your best to let this driver pass you, avoid eye contact, and keep your cool.
